Kids Adventure Games 4th place win: Colston Linke, (age 11)
3,2,1 the announcer called my heart was pumping as they called the numbers GO my legs lifted off.
“WHUMP WHUMP” I Climbed up the slick wall like it was nothing. I glanced back my teammate was right
behind me but the other team was not. Wow! I thought Im back here in vail colorado after a year of
waiting we crossed the closed street with people waiting for the team they were rooting for to come
across the same area we were at. I heard something so I looked back and saw the other team right
behind us. “GO GO GO” I shouted at my teammate “THEY’RE RIGHT BEHIND US.” After i finished my
sentence I saw him look back and pick up speed.
Soon enough we were at the bike corral were I dropped my bike off earlier. There was only one guy
there he looked at are bid numbers and saw that we were 2092 and then handed us are bikes as i
jumped on my bike i heard that same guy helping the other team go I thought as I peddled as fast as
I could. We pulled up too the second obstacle the Blow darts i hopped off my bike and grabbed a
blow dart gun my hand was shaking as i put the dart in “fwoop” i blew with all my might and watched
the dart come out of the gun and fly out of the gun and into the air. I stood there with a hopeful
expression on my
face “pow” i hit the target once. Then i stepped back and let my teammate do the next one Come on
god i prayed “pow” my teammate hit it a second time and as i watched the third bullet hit it a
third time. and i felt a smile creep onto my face as i heard the instructor at the obstacle yell
“YOU CAN GO” I ran to my bike hoped on and peddled to the next obstacle.
As i finished peddling up a hill i saw another instructor “pull out your map” he asked ANd my
teammate jumped off his bike to pull out the map as he handed back our map he glanced at the other
team “HEY” he yelled “THATS CHEATING YOUR DISQUALIFIED.”
* * *
As we rode into the bike corral we saw some of the wave 1 teams finishing but that did not
discourage us we just kept running “screech” we pulled are yellow tube down the narrow dirt path
way “SPLASH” we put are tube into the freezing cold water and started going down stream we took
turns pushing and pulling the tube the whole way. A couple times are tube flipped and we were sent
plunging into the cold water. “PULL YOUR TUBE OUT HERE” A person said i looked at their shirt and
it had the blue kids adventure games logo on it and on the back it said staff so i knew that that
was someone to trust “OK” me and my teammate called back as we were pulling our tube up the long
dirt pathway this other team pushed me into a ditch “HEY” my teammate called “YOU DON'T PUSH MY
FRIEND INTO A DITCH” but it was to late they were already gone “come on” my teammate said helping
me out of the water we need to catch up with them.
A little later we were climbing up a mountain trying to get too the last two obstacle “I see the
cargo net” I called to my teammate as we finished climbing the mountain i grabbed onto the cargo
net and lunged myself over that thing like it was nothing and i watched my friend do the same thing
“RUN” i yelled as i saw the giant slip-and-slide. I slowed my run to a stop as we started getting
to mud from the slip-and-slide “do you want to go first” i asked my friend
“no you can go” he responded “if you say so”
I jumped off the mountain and onto the slip-and-slide i went like 200 mph and plunged into the
freezing cold water. I swam out of the 3 ft deep water and watched my teammate go down the
slip-and-slide and we ran toward the end of the race.
“And here comes the Mountain lion group across the finish line and they’re hitting the griddy” said
the announcer and with an amazing time of 1hr and 9 min they handed us are medals and we watched
the other teams cross the finish line and “saw my brother cross the finish line. “hey” said my
teammates dad “you beat your brothers team like I said you had to” we waited for the award ceremony
and heard are names in honorable mentions and then looked at the sheet and saw that we
got 4th place. “LETS GO” I screamed.
