Updates
6 weeks out information
We're six weeks out and waves are filling fast. Skills Clinics have moved to Friday, August 7, 1–5pm — registration is now open. Two bonus events from Vail Recreation District: Balance Bike Race on Friday, August 7 (ages 5 & under, $10, Mountain Plaza, 9:30am) and Family Mud Run on Saturday, August 8 at 4:30pm ($15 youth / $26 adult / $70 family of four). Note that race pricing increased July 1.
Big Bear 5 weeks
You're among the first families bringing Kids Adventure Racing back to Big Bear since 2018 — and the best way to grow it is to invite the families you know. Send them the race video; it explains the event better than we can. Five weeks out, everything else is in the Athletes' Corner, and Helene is hosting a Zoom intro and FAQ Saturday, August 1 at 5pm PT. Skills Clinics are Friday, 1–4pm, plus the Balance Bike Race and Family Mud Run on Sunday, August 30. Prices increase soon.
4 weeks out information
Four weeks to go — and your team is registered! Now is the perfect time to start getting ready. The best preparation is also the most fun: ride and hike together so race day feels familiar, not brand new. Practice as a team — encouraging each other and solving problems as one. Everything you need for race day lives in the Athletes' Corner — gear, waivers, schedule, lodging, and more. Please take a moment to sign your waiver, and check that your teammate signed too.
3 week out information
Three weeks out — lodging in Vail goes fast in August. Book now, ideally close enough to roll out of bed and onto the course, or check the valley campgrounds (Gore Creek is our pick). Lodging links, travel tips, and the full weekend schedule are in the Athletes' Corner. Also on the calendar: Balance Bike Race Friday, August 7 (ages 5 & under, $10) and the Family Mud Run Saturday, August 8 at 4:30pm ($15 youth / $26 adult / $70 family of four). Note VRD registration takes a few extra steps.
Vail 2 weeks out
Gear check time: backpack, helmet, a bike in good working order, water, snacks, mountain-weather layers, and a change of clothes for after the Slip and Slide. Test all of it this week — race morning is the wrong time to find out something doesn't work. Sign your waiver if you haven't, and find the full gear list in the Athletes' Corner. Bonus events are still on the calendar: Balance Bike Race Friday, August 7 and the Family Mud Run Saturday, August 8.
